September 3, 2024 at 11:48 amThe team in Swans Room are all really welcoming and enthusiastic, consistently with smiles on their faces. We are expecting a new addition to the family in the summer and we’ve already signed her up for a place when she turns one. Thank you Dicky Birds Team! Our son has been attending Dicky Birds for almost two months now and really seems to adore it – if we walk past on days where he isn’t in, he runs up to the door and knocks to go in!

September 4, 2024 at 3:51 amOne criticism is the lack of continuity among our kid’s key person. I think we’ve been through 3 or 4 during the past one and a half years. That said we are generally pleased with the caliber of individuals the childcare centre employs. We’re impressed with the variety of offered activities and the overall supervision.

September 10, 2024 at 6:24 pmShe has learnt so many fantastic things whilst in their care and she has an action-packed day, every day, which is remarkable. The team clearly care so much for the kids and I trust she is in very capable hands. There can sometimes be staffing issues, true, but I think this is a reality for a lot of nurseries and you can see they really are trying to be as fair as possible.
Nothing but adore for them! Thank you Dicky Birds. Our baby girl has been attending Dicky Birds Day Childcare centre and Preschool Surbiton, Brighton Road for around 5 months now and shes never been happier.

November 5, 2024 at 3:51 pmHowever, I sense there is a big issue with staffing, whereby the standard differs greatly by room. This is reflected in the quality of updates back to parents, use/lack of use of tapestry, and the ability to have structured discussions about how your kid is progressing. I also believe this stems from the management of the childcare centre which has constantly changed over the past 2-years and there is no clear leader maintaining a consistent standard across all rooms and team. The overall journey with the childcare centre is great – in particular their use of outside time in the garden and daily walks.

November 28, 2024 at 5:24 pmMy son is cheerful which is the most important. I also find the meals to be very great. A couple of issues I journey as a parent is that my son has wee accidents quite often there, whereas at home he has none. So I think there’s room for improvement in that area. Also there have been a few cases of understaffing resulting in not accepting all the kids at the site or waiting till another member of team comes from another childcare centre so all the kids can be accepted. The childcare centre is overall great.

December 9, 2024 at 2:31 amThe team is inviting and they seem to really delight in spending time with kids. Being relatively small, it has the cosiness of a home too. There is a park nearby and the management seems to constantly think of ways to improve kids’s childcare centre journey. Dicky Birds Brighton Road is a great childcare centre.

December 15, 2024 at 8:58 amThe team takes great care of her and I can see that she is thriving. The team uploads a decent amount of photos showing her development into the app however I would really like to see a bit more detail of what she eats. This information is not given unless I ask at drop off and it sometimes can be a bit rushed by the team. Overall, we are very cheerful with the childcare centre and team and would suggest it to other parents. My daughter has been in this childcare centre since the beginning of 2023 and she loves it.

December 18, 2024 at 1:46 pmTeam turnover is extremely high, to the point they turn you away pretty much every morning. They don’t have the decency to even call you to apologise. They make you come in and then tell you at the door they have no team. They also use an agency which most respected nurseries don’t do. So you have no clue who’s with your kid, how they are with your kid, you get no updates, they currently have an issue with the garden where the manager is trying to “win back” in her exact words. They try to run a childcare centre on a housing development and the neighbours constantly complain about the childcare centre noise.
You don’t get told what they have eaten, you don’t even get photos, and you hardly get updates.
The team at the childcare centre have begged me to report the manager of Brighton Road, as I have been told by team she is mean to them and yells at them constantly. Probably why there’s no team.
No parking outside, and everything is squashed. Avoid at all costs. This childcare centre has many issues.

December 19, 2024 at 1:15 pmThe team are everything you could want in people looking after your kid. I have found them exceptional from the first phone call; understanding, accommodating and reasonable. It struck me that they would see my son as an individual and do right by him, which has continued. The team are exceptional, and the whole settling in process worked so well with outstanding updates throughout. They know what they are doing and my husband and I trust them to make an setting where our son is cheerful and will flourish. Couldn’t suggest it highly enough! The outside space in the first room isn’t excellent but the kids are taken out at least once a day to make up for it. I just adore this childcare centre.

January 16, 2025 at 4:09 amI can say with my hand on my heart that once you have visited a Dicky Birds Childcare centre, no other establishments will even come close. There is such a inviting and welcoming atmosphere in all their rooms. And even though the childcare centre is in itself gorgeous and wonderfully decorated, it really all boils down to their team. From the admissions team, all the way through to management…they go above and beyond to make sure you and your little one(s) are cheerful. I sense completely reassured every single morning that my kid is going to be looked after and cared for to the highest standard, and this is priceless. The team are simply incredible. The way my son has developed over the past three years is incredible. I’d like to take all the credit for this, but I can’t! They do so much with them. During the pandemic, they were absolute superheroes in keeping the childcare centre open. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything. My son has been at this childcare centre from when they first opened their doors in 2018.

January 28, 2025 at 4:44 amWe sometimes get updates on the Tapestry app too which are excellent. Also in warmer weather, they try to get the kids outside a lot. These are the main things and why we continue with the childcare centre.
Negatives are the management, you can be waiting outside for some time in the morning as the team shifts seem to begin at different times. Obviously, this is very disruptive to working parents’ days, you certainly aren’t getting any money back and the day rate is already very expensive. The ladies running the duckling’s room are remarkable, our daughter seems to really delight in being there and is doing interesting activities during the day.

February 6, 2025 at 4:28 pmMy son is very cheerful every time he goes there and discovering many things. Team are very welcoming, giving you feedback each day. They go out for walks and in the garden every day. I highly suggest. Very great journey with the childcare centre.

February 13, 2025 at 7:20 amThe gardens are messy, there doesn’t seem to be as many activities set up for the kids, and the kids seemed to be hurried through rooms so they can take more kids in the older room (potentially before they are ready) so they can lower team quarters. Of course, there is the ongoing issue of being turned away at the door on a morning and being asked to wait which has been super stressful for both team, kids and parents. The price seems to keep increasing but the quality of the setting doesn’t.
I used to highly suggest this childcare centre but now I simply say the team are excellent, and it’s okay. The team deserve so much praise for the dedication and care they take for their kids but more recently with new management and a new company takeover, the standard of the childcare centre has dropped.

February 13, 2025 at 3:05 pmThey are expensive, understaffed, and poorly managed I would not suggest this childcare centre at all with the current system they have in place. We had our son in Dicky Birds for a few years, but since new management started not only he has consistently been unhappy going in, but since they don’t have enough team on many occasions, they refused to let us in (which is challenging if you have a demanding job to suddenly take a leave) or had to queue outside the childcare centre for over 2 hours (an issue when your son does not want to go in, in the first place and you need to get to work).
When we pick him up, it seems he was just rolling in the dirt the whole day, without anyone paying much attention.

April 11, 2025 at 7:43 pmAll the team, especially his two key workers, are compassionate and thoughtful. He’s out for an adventure every day to the park which I think is really important. My son has loved joining the duckling’s room from his induction in November 2020 and he has continued to thrive.

April 25, 2025 at 3:44 amMy son consistently comes back cheerful after a enjoyable-filled day. He has learnt a lot since starting at the childcare centre and I’m hoping that this will continue. We have had a really positive journey with Dicky Birds.

April 30, 2025 at 4:18 pmKeep it up! Super satisfactory and reliable childcare centre. Can’t suggest it enough. Every member of team is attentive and loving. Team mix in gender, culture and are also well above the standard childcare centre. My kids adore everything about the childcare centre. Absolutely delightful childcare centre.

May 19, 2025 at 4:07 pmBoth of our kids are very cheerful there and get up to all sorts of activities, which really does seem to nurture their development and creativity.
That said, some of the changes implemented since the childcare centre was sold have been negative. This includes:
1. Moving “Robins” to an underground room full time. When we joined the childcare centre we were assured this room was only to be used as an extra room.
2. Losing the on-site chefs and then experimenting with a system that left kids hungry.
3. Stopping jolly phonics.
4. Communicating important changes like the above only after the event, and even then using management speak and technical terminology e.g. arguing in favour of “phonological awareness and oral blending”, without clearly explaining what actually happens in the classrooms now.
5. Moving billing from a system that made sense to one that is completely impossible to follow. The team at Dicky Birds have consistently been outstanding.

May 23, 2025 at 8:15 pmThe team are attentive and keep parents informed. We would suggest Dicky Birds. A excellent childcare centre, both my kids have been cheerful attending Dicky Birds and it’s excellent to see all the different activities they do.

July 3, 2025 at 1:10 amThe team are all absolutely lovely and go above and beyond to take care of her, with enjoyable activities and making sure she’s engaged and having such a great time. There is a chef on-site meaning that they eat better than at home and the team make an effort to take the kids out a few times a day. The childcare centre has honestly meant that I can work without stressing if she’s ok. There were some issues with staffing in 2022, however, these have since been resolved meaning I have no complaints. My daughter has been at this childcare centre since she was 10 months old and is so well cared for.
