October 26, 2024 at 11:25 amIt has a welcoming, family-like atmosphere and very positive and polite early years practitioners who seem genuinely cheerful in their work. There is a lot of outdoor playtime and the setting is a quiet location bordered with trees – their own ‘forest’! I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Puffins at Sowton, especially if you’re looking for somewhere that doesn’t have a large, commercial sense to it. My daughter attends this childcare centre and she loves it.

November 30, 2024 at 12:55 amI have consistently had full self‑assurance in the team and their skills and they really take the time to get to know the kids and their personality. My son really enjoys going to childcare centre and talks about his time there, he particularly enjoys his time spent in the garden. My son has been going to puffins since he was 5 months old and is now two.

December 26, 2024 at 6:55 pmI’m really cheerful with how quickly she settled in at a very young age and the team are all supportive and welcoming. They do lots of excellent sensory and outdoor activities which she wouldn’t journey at home. I adore that it’s a small setting meaning the team and kids can really bond with each other. Highly suggest! My daughter attends this childcare centre and she loves it.

January 31, 2025 at 5:20 amThey listen when I inform them of current sleeping and eating habits and work with me to help with any issues.
Kids get to go out every day in the garden and they arrange all sorts of activities for them.
Kids also get to go on mini excursions every now and then in the local area. Team are very welcoming and supportive.

February 18, 2025 at 8:28 amThe team are inviting and welcoming. I like the fact that this is a kid lead setting because it stimulates discovering, teamwork and playtime. My daughter gets excited when I drop her off and she has lots of exciting things to say when I pick her up. She is cheerful and I wouldn’t ask for anything else for a 2-year-old. Thank you for everything Puffins! This is a small setting, but it is really lovely.

February 24, 2025 at 1:03 pmOur daughter made long lasting friends and bonded with all her key carers through the years Puffins Sowton will consistently have a place in our memory. We loved the set up, easy to reach and close to our workplace, drop off and pick up are consistently easy as the car park is secure, secluded and consistently has plenty of space.
Our daughter spent 4 years at Puffins Sowton and she developed into a confident little girl who is thriving at school.
There is a high turnover of team but as long as parents keep updates flowing and escalate any issues to senior management early, everything runs fine.
Kids are cheerful at the setting as it is small enough for a kid to know everyone and their roles, chef, cleaner, managers.

April 7, 2025 at 2:30 amAs soon as I walked into the childcare centre I had a excellent feeling about the place – the kids looked really cheerful and it was obvious that the team are enthusiastic about their jobs. The outdoor space is remarkable and includes a small Forest School. It’s excellent that the kids can choose to playtime inside or out and there is a free flow between the two, whatever the weather. There are endless opportunities to explore new experiences, which sometimes involves getting mucky. I adore the fact that the team are cheerful to get stuck in and mucky themselves! Our son has also been lucky enough to go on many adventures away from the childcare centre, including trips into Exeter on the bus. A trip to the Farmers Market to buy vegetables for making soup was a particular highlight. The ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted result is well deserved and I highly suggest the childcare centre. Thanks for giving our son such a excellent start to life. Our son attended Puffins Sowton for 4 years and it was a truly fantastic time for him.

April 12, 2025 at 12:34 pmHe absolutely loves it there and has done since day 1. They’ve been remarkable with his development, and provided a supportive, encouraging and enjoyable setting. He adores the team, and we never have any trouble dropping him off.
They’ve been wonderfully accommodating with everything from my awkward work pattern/roster changes, through the storing and feeding of my expressed milk and our cloth nappies. He’s enjoyed such a wide range of activities from messy outdoor playtime to trips to the library. All the team are really lovely, would 100% suggest. Our 18-month-old has been with Pufffins since 5 months.

April 26, 2025 at 10:58 amVery accommodative to my daughter’s food allergies/tolerances and they review them regularly to check if still all appropriate as we are reintroducing food to her. All the food is cooked fresh on site daily. Very adaptable childcare centre to individual childs needs especially dietary.

June 5, 2025 at 5:33 amWe visited Puffins and had such a positive feeling about the childcare centre as soon as we walked through the door, the two team members that showed us around were supportive and was playing with our daughter and making her sense welcome. During the 9 months that our daughter spent at Puffins, not only did her social skills develop but also her self‑assurance and overall development, she used to get excited to go in on her childcare centre day and consistently enjoyed her day, the team were consistently open and honest with us and nothing was too much trouble. If we called to see how she was getting on they would consistently make time to keep us updated and would update the parent app with food logs and pictures. I will consistently be so grateful to Puffins and the part they played in our daughter’s early years care and development. Our daughter attended Puffins one day a week from when she turned 1, I wanted to find a childcare centre to help her with her social development as she spent most of her first year in lockdown.

June 11, 2025 at 3:01 amMy daughter has just left to go to school, but she attended for almost 4-years. The team are exemplary, full of creative ideas and very approachable to both kids and parents. The kids are consistently doing exciting and interesting things, experimenting and discovering lots through creative playtime. My daughter spent a lot of time outside, discovering about nature and playing in the mud kitchen! She consistently came home cheerful, full of stories of all the enjoyable she’d had. We’ll miss it now she’s at school! Outstanding childcare centre!
