April 25, 2022 at 12:00 amWe have been with Dicky Birds for quite some time. Our firstborn daughter is now at school and our youngest is turning three. Over the years there have been some minor changes in regards to the management team and the company ownership, but this doesn’t seem to stop the amazing team to continue providing a nurturing environment full of wonderful experiences. The staff are very friendly and knowledgable.

April 25, 2022 at 12:00 amMy child has been at this nursery for almost 2 years now, going through the different classes and every single one has been even better than the previous one. The staff are very thoughtful and I am fully confident that they are providing great care for my child and broadening their horizons.
In addition, from a very practical standpoint, 3 meals a day and nappies are provided which makes our life as parents much easier during the week.

April 25, 2022 at 12:00 amA fantastic nursery with lovely, caring staff.
Always enthusiastic about learning and fun all mixed in together.
It’s well run with managers always on hand and room leaders always keen to talk to parents every day about the day’s activities.
Activities are varied – walks, learning, science experiments, dancing, yoga etc.

April 25, 2022 at 12:00 amMy son previously attended many years ago. My daughter currently attends and is in the Starlings room. She started her journey in the Ducks and has worked her way up the rooms. She is very excited to go in every day and see her friends and the team in the room. I can not fault the care that we have received and you can see how hard all the staff work in the nursery. She comes home happy which is what my main hope is. The nursery displays as you enter the nursery are fantastic and very appealing! As a family, we cannot find a fault with the nursery.

April 29, 2022 at 12:00 amWe have had my daughter at Dicky Birds for a couple of years and overall have been impressed. The nursery has a nice range of facilities and activities. They make the most of the outdoor space and my little one enjoys the regular walks to the local parks and river.
We have got to know many of the staff during our time and have been impressed with their dedication and enthusiasm. Managers are easily accessible and often present in the children’s rooms.
My little one is excited for nursery each day and always comes home with a smile.

December 20, 2022 at 12:00 amStaff go above and beyond to make sure your little one is safe, cared for and happy. We can speak to them about issues we are having regarding difficulties with getting our child to sleep, potty training etc and despite being super busy they give you that time and advice which is really helpful. We attended a lovely Christmas event that the nursery put on which was fab, my daughter had lots of fun and it was a chance for the parents to meet too. Food and drink were great and once again staff really went that extra mile, on a Friday evening I might add- which we all know is precious time to unwind at the end of the week. Really appreciate their efforts.

March 24, 2023 at 12:00 amWe love Dicky Birds. Our older two attended another DB nursery, and my middle one attended Maple Road for a few months when we moved. We tried another nursery with our youngest because it had slightly longer hours and was in a more convenient location for us. But we missed DB, the quality of care, the lovely staff and the ethos so we came back and are so pleased. It’s even better than we remember. The staff have been great in both rooms so far. My son bounces in every morning and is happy when we pick him up. I couldn’t recommend the nursery more highly.

March 26, 2023 at 12:00 amI will split my review into the child development and overall nursery management categories. Regarding development, I think that the practitioners are doing a fabulous job. Our daughter adores the nursery and knows the names of a decent number of practitioners she had interacted with and also the names of the children in her room. We are receiving regular updates on her progress. Management-wise, there used to be quite a few issues with the staffing shortages that negatively affected parents in the mornings as we had to wait for staff replacements and had been given at short notice. I assume that this had also been putting a high stress load on the practitioners (who had been handling it amazingly well) and consequently children. However, the situation seems to have improved. On the food note, the meals that they serve for lunch and tea seem varied and healthy, but the breakfast is not nutritious enough (no eggs), at least from what I’ve seen.

March 27, 2023 at 12:00 amWe love Dicky Birds Nursery. My son started here six months ago when he was one. He adores going and he’s grown in confidence so much.
The staff are so supportive and kind. I feel like they really know my son and they care about all of the children.
They do varied activities and the food is really good. I couldn’t ask for more from a nursery and its staff!

March 28, 2023 at 12:00 amMy youngest has been with this nursery for 7 months since she was 7 months old. We had the most awful case of bottle rejection when we started and she is such a mama’s girl she even cries when daddy picks her up. The staff have been so understanding and compassionate, working with me trying all kinds of different bottles and cups, even spoon-feeding her milk to get her the liquids and nutrition she needs. She’s now happy and thriving and absolutely loves going to nursery. It’s a priceless feeling that my precious little one is getting the best care and enrichment she possibly could under the care of the Flamingo room staff. She especially adores all the messy play they organise for the class, which is impressive considering it must be no small feat to clean up after. I certainly would not want to give her that experience at home myself! We also need to be talking about the food, because the cuisine at this place is 5 baby Michelin stars. I know because I’ve tried it myself.

March 28, 2023 at 12:00 amDicky Birds Day Nursery had gone through a period of staff shortage in 2022 with many experienced staff leaving. This meant that there were occasions when they had to turn children away because they just didn’t have the staff available to meet the required ratio. However, they seem to be fully staffed now and the new staff have been wonderful. The food is also delicious (I’ve tried it!) and my little one frequently has more than one serving. Management can do a better job of communicating staff changes, such as giving parents sufficient heads up about staff leaving, introducing new joiners etc. But otherwise, the team are great and my little one is happy there.

March 28, 2023 at 12:00 amAmazing nursery, my son loves it here and skips in most days. The staff are incredible! He’s always learning and out and about in the outdoors which is great. He’s learning lots of sports which I think is so important and one of his favourite parts.

March 28, 2023 at 12:00 amHard to overstate how big a part of our lives nursery is as working parents with no local family support – we’d be lost without Dicky Birds Day Nursery. We’ve had three children go through two Dicky Birds settings, before, during and after the pandemic years and it has been a consistently brilliant experience for our family, mainly thanks to the love and care of the talented staff who really make it a second home. It’s been transformative for all our children’s confidence. Our third child is currently at Maple Road and loves the setting and all the staff so much, she toddles in and out of there every day beaming. I live for the photos of the messy play (the staff are extremely creative and I especially love that I don’t have to feel guilty about not doing messy play at home!), garden time and the trips to the river and cherish the weekly updates on what they are learning so I can share in the same songs, books and themes at home. Early years is undervalued, but we are so grateful for the Dicky Birds team

March 29, 2023 at 12:00 amWe’ve been generally happy with the staff across the multiple classes our child has now been through. They get to know your child and provide personalised care. They’re often able to answer questions about the day or latest behaviour and are supportive through phases and transitions. We’ve been impressed with the diverse activities and curriculum. Economies of scale ensure that your child gets to experience things they might not when at home. The facility is well organised and equipped.

April 1, 2023 at 12:00 amThe nursery have been fantastic – always coming up with fun and creative activities and ways to stimulate the children’s minds. Our daughter has developed socially and emotionally since joining Dicky Birds Day Nursery. The staff have been so supportive of personal circumstances as well, be it health/medical needs or developmental milestones such as potty training. We are so grateful for Dicky Birds and all that the staff do every day!

April 3, 2023 at 12:00 amSincerely appreciate the atmosphere of fun and learning that the caring staff at Dicky Birds encourage. My daughter has been attending since she was eleven months old and she enjoys it immensely, has made so many lovely friends and is confident, creative and curious as a result of the curriculum.

April 3, 2023 at 12:00 amBoth of our boys attend Dicky Birds Maple Road and have done so for nearly a year. Our youngest (now almost 2) began his nursery journey there at 10 months and we loved it so much that we transferred our eldest when he was nearly 3 after he had had 18 months elsewhere.
Everyone is kind and welcoming. They teach the children in a fun, playful, messy (!), joyful way and they love them and protect them exactly how you want your children nurtured when they are away from you. They encourage individuality but also communal respect. They stress fresh air and the outdoors and they give children the space to be themselves. We love it.
We cannot say enough good things about the staff and the programme at Dicky Birds Maple Road and are happy that we chose it.

April 4, 2023 at 12:00 amWe couldn’t be happier sending our son to Dicky Birds. The staff are all so kind and caring and make a huge effort to make each day fun and engaging for the children through the wide range of activities that they offer. We love to see the pictures and weekly round ups every Friday of what the children got up to and their smiling faces say it all!

April 6, 2023 at 12:00 amWe absolutely love Dicky Birds Maple Road. The staff are all absolutely amazing, and the way they care for the children is next level. They go out of their way for the children, and my daughter has adored all the workers in every room she’s been in. The activities, opportunities and learning they do is first-class. I like how they take the children on daily walks, which other local nurseries do not do. My daughter also does weekly play sessions there every Tuesday. We couldn’t be happier and will be sad when my daughter gets too big to stay on. Lastly, the food and weekly menus are second to none thanks to their incredible chef, who makes delicious and nutritious meals.

July 17, 2023 at 12:00 amThe nursery is poor; recently audited by Ofsted as ‘Requires improvement’ across all measurable areas. When we joined for our child the Ofsted reports were ‘Good’, prior to that ‘Outstanding’.
The turnover of staff, continuity of staff, staff levels, staff consistency and capacity to focus on the development of your child just isn’t there. We’re immensely disappointed with this nursery, particularly the management who seem to be wholly ineffective and functionally useless.
There’s little attention to the learning pathway, maturity, shortfalls and needs of an individual child, yes they can look after your child but they seem to be unable to meaningfully develop their learning.
For the higher than local pricing they charge and the onerous terms and conditions they rigidly mandate on parents it just isn’t worth considering as an option.
We would recommend you look to another nursery, not the Dicky Birds/Grandir/Kidi Caru group (who have several locations nationally).
